burn

crossing bridges should've burned
ashes left to dwindle
left the past far behind
those flames to rekindle

smoke lingers pocketed
in conflicted hopless lovers
learned to sing while hidin'
in the skirts of single mothers

bottled my emotions
drank 'em down again
body of a junkie
growing pale and thin

we're all sinner addicts
cravin' deeper pain
cover up the punctures
tattoo secret stain

city lights burnin'
somewhere in your eye
deep in flaming wind
heard Mary cry
